The Department CIBIO (Computational and Cellular Integrative Biology) at the University of Trento is an advanced scientific environment where classical cellular and molecular biology approaches merge with new powerful tools of systems and synthetic biology. The scientific program is organized in four main areas: i) Cancer Biology & Genomics, ii) Cell & Molecular Biology, iii) Microbiology & Synthetic Biology, and iv) Neurobiology & Development. Research is led by 44 Principal Investigators independently carrying their research funded partly by intramural resources and mostly by independent international grants. Scientific disciplines include cell and synthetic biology, genetics, microbiology and bioinformatics integrated with chemistry, physics, informatics, mathematics aiming at understanding the basic biological processes and translating in therapies through pharmacological and biotechnological intervention. Faculties teach undergraduate and graduating university courses and supervise students (PhD, Master and Bachelor) in the laboratories of the Department.
