Anna Cereseto, PhD is the Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the University of Trento and the Vice Director of the Department. She is leading a research group that made a major contribution in advancing genome editing technologies based on CRISPR-Cas systems and proved their efficacy in reversing genetic defects causing one of the most frequent genetic diseases, cystic fibrosis.  Her group is following two main paths towards genome editing advancement: 1) development of novel genome editing tools by searching new molecules in the metagenome database of the microbiome and their optimization through molecular engineering and directed evolution; 2) implementation of genome editing for cystic fibrosis through the identification of precise and efficient genetic repair strategies and through the  development of efficient delivery tools (viral and non-viral). She acts as the main supervisor of DC6.
